Records Break
at BeaveRun
Big Beaver
Borough - June 19, 2005
The 52nd
running of the SCCA Cumberland National at BeaveRun MotorSports
ComPlex came to an official end on Sunday with 10 new lap
records to boast. The Sports Car Club of America was founded
over 60 years ago and has grown to become the largest
motorsports membership organization in the world. The Steel
Cities Region of the SCCA hosted approximately 200 competitors
at BeaveRun through the weekend.
Among those
who competed were inventor of the Hans System, Jim Downing,
1996, 24 hours of Lemans winner and Graham Rahal, son of 1986
Indianapolis winner, Bobby Rahal. Graham shattered the track
record with a time of 52.603 seconds on the 1.52 mile track.
23 Classes of
cars raced in eight race groups for national points in order to
compete in the SCCA National Run-Offs in September at Mid-Ohio.
Each of the winners at the Run-Offs is declared the national
champion of their respective classes.
